Programs
Health
The management of menstruation hygiene (MHM) by older needy girls and women is an area often ignored by various players. Similarly, cervical and breast cancer amongst women are causing anxiety in many households just as HIV and now COVID, Ebola and other diseases are a growing concern. We have started a MHM programme which we plan to extend to many beneficiaries. O a diffident front, families are facing conflicts and domestic violence is on the increase with many men running off leaving the wife and children to fend for themselves. Children commonly grow up in disturbed homes and mental health difficulties are on the rise.
Food Security and Livelihood (FSL)
HAMOT has 3 acres of land made available by family friends in Eyl. Some of this land has been used to grow foodstuff which has helped feed needy households. This will be strengthened and land acquired and registered as HAMOT property.
Education and skills training
HAMOT has in the past secured individual sponsors of needy children in school. One such beneficiary, sat her primary leaving examinations done over in 1999.
After exams, an excited Samali had this to say: I thank the people of our HAMOT. May Allah grant you your wishes.
The team plans to collaborate with other stakeholders in improving, formal, non-formal, adult basic education and training (ABET), functional adult literacy (FAL) and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Prevention of Domestic violence and support to affected members
Women and girls face untold emotional, physical and sexual abuse. During one to one, many break down and pour out their hearts. HAMOT has secured a professional psychosocial support worker, Hodan Mohamed to offer the much-needed psychosocial support services. This comes after realization that the entire population has been traumatized by COVID, political tension, poverty and other community violence. We ask international and national NGOs, corporate companies and individuals to visit HAMOT and discuss how we can bring relief to those facing diverse mental health challenges.
Skills training for women livelihoods
HAMOT management has teamed up with partners to operate a sweater making and tailoring centre with the Eyl area. It has 4 sewing machines and 2 Sweater gadgets. Other workshops planned are a motor vehicle workshop and training centre. The centre will offer hands on-training in a range of auto-related areas. These include motor vehicle mechanics/repair with aid of computer scanner, car body repair and spraying, maintenance of the cooling system, engine tuning, battery charging and repair and general electrical works. The trainees will gain employable skills of mechanical engineering in less than 6 months.
